Obituary: Alicia Marie Reidel

Alicia Marie Reidel, 77, a Carson City resident, died Feb. 20, 2003, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital of Alzheimer's disease.

She was born in Calhoun, Okla., to Pete and Rosa Cheely. She spent her early years there and moved to California in her teens to follow produce harvests.

She moved to Elko in the early 1960s, and worked for the radio station KELK. She moved to the Quincy/Greenville area of California, where she began a career in the lumber industry, working in a sawmill then for the U.S. Forest Service in the finance office of the Plumas National Forest.

She married George Reidel in 1965, and they lived at the Nevada Division of Forestry Bowers Fire Station in Washoe Valley.

She worked for the State of Nevada Retirement System in Carson City, the Nevada Highway Patrol in the Carson City area as a dispatcher and as a jailer for the Reno Police Department Jail Division. After her retirement, she continued to serve as a dispatcher in the Minden Fire Communications Center.

She was an avid gardener.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a son.

Among her survivors are her daughter, Sherryl of Biloxi, Miss.; brother, Charles Cheely of Poteau, Okla.; husband, George of Carson City; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in Oklahoma.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
