TUSCON, Ariz. -- Five mountain cabins in Willow Canyon were destroyed overnight as strong winds fueled the resurgent Aspen wildfire.

Firefighters set backfires and cleared brush to defend about 50 homes near Mount Lemmon that are also being threatened.

Fire spokesman Pruett Small says despite attempts to keep the wildfire away from Willow Canyon, strong winds drove firefighters back.

Also at risk are youth camps on Organization Ridge, and an observatory and communication antennas on Mount Bigelow.

Small said the fire would continue to threaten Willow Canyon from other directions over the next day or two.

The fire destroyed 317 homes last month in and around the vacation town of Summerhaven.

Driven by the wind, the fire has ballooned to 68-thousand acres. It is 55 percent contained.
