Life difficult for family burned out of home

A bank account has been established to help a Dayton family burned out of their home on July 3.

The family has been going from motel to motel in Carson City trying to arrange permanent housing.

"We've been jumping from hotel room to hotel room since the fire," Matthew Snyder said Wednesday. "It has been very difficult on us so far."

The family checked out of the Pioneer Motel on Wednesday.

"I have no clue about where we are going from now on," he said. "We could use all the help we could get."

Most of the family's belongings are in storage, but Snyder said they have been loading up their car each time they've had to move.

Next week, Matthew and his fiancee expect to be in an apartment thanks to federal assistance.

"From now until next week, that's our problem," he said. "If it was just me and fiancee we would be fine, but we've got two kids we're looking after."

The family, consisting of Theresa Dawson, Dawson's boyfriend Dan Ruecker, their daughter Cassandra Ruecker, Dawson's son Matthew Snyder, Snyder's fiancee, Valerie Moreno and their newborn daughter Felicity, lost their home when a spark from a barbecue grill set the home ablaze.

Ruecker was by himself at the Dayton home and lit the grill to cook food. The rest of the family was headed to Redding, Calif., for the Fourth of July.

The family didn't have insurance for the home where they lived for five years.
