A dramatic wall of glass is the first feature to greet the eye at Car Quest Auto Part's new store, under construction at 3520 Highway 50 East.
In addition to ample parking, the plans for this 28,000-square-foot building include a large warehouse, retail floor and mezzanine walkway with offices.
Jay Koenig, general manager for the company said the added traffic expected after completion of the freeway project, and more room for parking, were two factors in the decision to build on Carson City's east side.
Brett Clampitt, store manager at the North Carson location said congestion is another factor.
"One of our customers waited 10 minutes in the turn lane on Carson Street, just to get to the store," he said. "He gave up and called us from home."
Two Carson City auto supply stores will be incorporated at the new site. The company purchased Valley Auto Supply at 1800 Highway 50 East and that store will join forces with the CarQuest now located at 1803 N. Carson St.
Construction started in November and the opening is tentatively set for mid-August. Carson City-based Metcalf Construction is handling the project.
CarQuest offers a full line of car and truck parts in addition to training clinics, equipment and sales leasing and computer links to installers. The company takes inventory consignments and offers coast-to-coast parts warranties. They also offer training clinics and group or club discounts.
CarQuest was founded 1974 with 100 auto parts stores and today, almost 4,000 stores serve North America.
