New publisher named for Nevada Appeal

The Nevada Appeal on Friday promoted John DiMambro to publisher and Peter Kostes to associate publisher/group editor.

The announcement was made by Group Publisher Peter Starren, who will remain in his position overseeing all Tahoe-Carson Area Newspapers.

DiMambro has been associate publisher for the Appeal since July 2002.

Under his new role, all Tahoe-Carson Area Newspapers' regional disciplines of advertising, circulation, news, production, marketing and the Internet will report to DiMambro at the Nevada Appeal.

Kostes, who will serve as associate publisher for the Appeal as well as group editor for the Tahoe-Carson newspapers, is currently publisher of The Record-Courier in Minden-Gardnerville. He will remain at The Record-Courier until a replacement is named.

DiMambro holds a bachelor's degree in journalism from Utica College in New York, a subsidiary of Syracuse University.

An award-winning advertising director during a 17-year career with Gannett Corp. in Utica and Pensacola, Fla., DiMambro also was president and chief executive officer for Thomson Newspapers' former Chesapeake division, comprising 13 newspapers in Maryland, Virginia and Delaware.

A native of Utica, DiMambro, his wife, Jennifer Ann, and 10-year-old daughter, Leah Paige, live in Carson City

Kostes has been publisher of The Record-Courier for four years, coming there from the Sierra Sun newspaper in Truckee, where he worked for nine years.

"Although I will miss my current role at The Record-Courier, I'm excited about working with the Nevada Appeal and our sister newspapers in a regional capacity," Kostes said.

"Professionally, there's nothing more satisfying than contributing to a community newspaper. I'm very fortunate to be part of a regional group of papers that focuses intensely on local news in the areas we serve," he said.

"I look forward to working with the talented people we have on our editorial staffs. Our goal is to best use our collective resources to serve our readers and communities," Kostes said.

Kostes previously worked as an editor and reporter at community papers in Colorado and Connecticut. A Connecticut native, he attended Western Connecticut State University.

Kostes and his wife Julie live in northern Douglas County.

The Appeal, Record-Courier and Sierra Sun are among the Tahoe-Carson newspapers owned by Reno-based Swift Newspaper Co., a family-owned corporation.

Other Swift newspapers in the area are the Tahoe Daily Tribune, North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and Tahoe World. All are operated in their respective communities and printed at the Nevada Appeal's production plant at 580 Mallory Way in Carson City.
