John W. Neal of Virginia City graduated 26th in his class at West Point several days ago. He was one of the committee of three who managed the graduation dinner at Delmonico's, New York. Deputy Sheriff Scott of Alpine County was here looking for a man named Gibbons, charged with having committed a beastly outrage.

Anonymous letter writing, as a rule, the worst and most cowardly mode of revenge adopted by people who know no other way of "Playing Even." Friday a letter of the most damaging character was circulated in a number of localities of this city, charging Mr. Belcoe, one of Carson's businessmen, with one of the worst crimes on the calendar.

Bower's open-air dance pavilion will be opened Saturday night for the summer season with a new band and under new management. Douglas Vaughan, popular Carson boy who has been playing with a band in Reno and on the coast, will be a member of a five-piece band. Cost 75 cents.

Norman Elston was elected president of the 20-20 Club last night to succeed Paul Laxalt, who has held the reins for the past six months.

Carson City District Attorney William Maddox says the Legislature hasn't given local government a fair break, and he doesn't like it. He says schools and the state had a free ride on taxes, while it let voters veto tax increases to support cities and counties.
10 YEARS AGO
Carson Valley Days, featured, were Bob Black and Steve Jones in the time-honored contest of arm-wrestling at Lampe Park. Jones won both the match and championship.
