Father's Day fire still under investigation

The cause of a fire that destroyed a Dori Way home on Father's Day is still under investigation.

Two women who lived at the home lost everything they own, according to neighbors and firefighters.

Smoke was seen coming out of a bathroom of the single-wide mobile home at about 2:26 p.m. Sunday.

Neighbor Jan Carmody said she heard the fire call on her police radio before she ran outside and saw the smoke coming out of the back of the house.

The residents came home to find it burning. According to Battalion Chief Richard Chrzanowski, a man tried to put out the fire with a garden hose.

Carmody said she told the residents to grab the hose and start watering down the trailer.

Chrzanowski said the home was engulfed in flames by the time firefighters arrived.

"According to the report, the home was a total loss," he said.

A cat died in the fire, but the residents' two dogs were just singed.

Carmody said a dog hid under the mobile home and came out a little singed.

She pointed out some heat damage to the rain gutter along her roof line.

"It was a good thing the wind wasn't stronger or it would have taken me out and the neighbor on the other side."

Neighbors hosed down their fences on either side of the blaze.

Jim Mitchell, who lives a few doors away, said he went to the store, and when he returned, the fire had begun.

"When I came home, I could see her place from my place," he said. "Not long at all after that, the place burst into flames."

Chrzanowski said firefighters at the scene reported a loss of about $37,000 to the home and contents.

The residents' names were not available at press time. Carmody said they were an aunt and her niece.
