Murder trial begins Monday

Jury selection begins Monday in the trial of a Carson City man accused of killing his estranged girlfriend's stepfather and maiming her mother.

Christopher Allan Fiegehen, 24, is charged with murder with the use of a deadly weapon, attempted murder with the use of a firearm, burglary and home invasion. If convicted he faces life in prison.

He is accused of the Feb. 10, 2002, early-morning assault on Alan and Lorelle Chorkey in their Johnson-Lane area home that left Alan dead from stab wounds to his neck and his wife gravely injured with two gunshot wounds, one to the head and another to her chest.

Fiegehen had dated Lorelle Chorkey's daughter, Alane Dockstader, then 18, for about two years when he broke up with her in January 2002, according to Dockstader's account in a restraining order issued against him weeks before the murder. Despite the restraining order, Dockstader testified she'd met with Fiegehen the night before the murder and he wanted to rekindle their relationship.

According to court documents, Lorelle Chorkey allegedly identified Fiegehen as the man who attacked her and her husband.

When authorities tried to locate him, Fiegehen was nowhere to be found.

A notice on "America's Most Wanted" television show turned up clues he had been working as a waiter at a Mobile, Ala., restaurant. Then a Vincennes, Ind., campus police officer arrested Fiegehen on April 9, 2002, after he was stopped and questioned walking along railroad tracks late at night.

When Fiegehen handed officers his Nevada driver's license, they discovered the Douglas County murder warrant on a national crime computer.

Fiegehen is the son of Carson City businessman Al Fiegehen, part owner of the Ormsby House and Cubix Corp.

He remains in the Douglas County Jail without bail.
