Six Health Station kiosks made by Computerized Screening Inc.
of Sparks will provide medical screening to residents of the central Los Angeles neighborhood known as "Skid Row." The company's kiosks deliver healthscreening tools and preventive education.
People who use the kiosks will be able to immediately book appointments with JWCH Institute, a private nonprofit health agency that works with the poor.
Jill Rotenberg, a program manager for JWCH Institute, said last week the organization was drawn to the CSI kiosks because they can be placed in spots that are comfortable to users.
About 53 percent of the neighborhood's residents are without health insurance.
Charles Bluth, founder and chief executive of CSI, said his company believes use of the kiosks can help neighborhood residents better manage their own health and improve their awareness of health-care services.
