Residents of the city of Esquel in Argentina said they don't like a plan by Reno's Meridian Gold to develop a gold mine near their city.

Eighty percent of the residents who voted in a non-binding referendum opposed the plan.

Environmental groups say the mine might endanger water supplies, but the company said results of a water study won't be published until next month.
