Obituary: Glen H. Chipman

Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. Sunday for longtime Nevada resident Glen H. Chipman. He was 78.

Services will be at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

Mr. Chipman died May 6 at home in Carson City. He was born Jan. 30, 1925 in American Fork Utah to Aaron Peter and Enola Faye Householder Chipman. Chipman's great-great-grandfather was one of the founders of American Fork. Family records show he was a descendant of passengers on the Mayflower.

Chipman's family moved to Nevada during the Depression. Mining led them to Lime Mountain and Midas where Chipman attended a one-room schoolhouse. He attended high school in Golconda.

Chipman is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II as a medic in England and fought in the D-Day Invasion.

Chipman returned from the war and settled in Winnemucca where he met Nora Saunders. They were married Aug. 15, 1948 .

He began working for the Nevada Highway Department in rural parts of the state as a survey crew member and became a resident engineer. After moving 17 times in 13 years he moved to Carson City to work at the highway department headquarters where he worked as a design engineer until retiring in 1980.

He was a member of the Sagebrush Model A Ford Club of Carson City and the Mountain Quail Model A Ford Club in Loyalton, Calif. He toured throughout the West and Canada and drove his car in parades with both groups and restored one Model A.

Chipman was an avid bowler and loved traveling. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America for church programs at the Methodist church and participated in his children's activities.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ina Faye Chipman.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; a son Loren of Morro Bay, Calif.; daughter Kathleen Wicker of Minden; brother Bruce Chipman of Mokelumne Hill, Calif.; grandson Thomas Wicker of Minden, a niece, four nephews and other relatives of Utah.

Private family entombment services will follow services at the Mountain View Mausoleum in Reno.

Donations in Chipman's name may be made to the church memorial fund, the Humboldt County Museum in Winnemucca or given to help a friend in need.
