A man hit by a truck and killed Friday night on William Street in front of Mills Park has been identified as Ralph Keith, a 55-year-old transient, according to Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Primka.
Keith was walking across the westbound lanes in heavy traffic about 7:20 p.m. when he was hit by a white Chevrolet pickup truck, according to witnesses. The sheriff's office, Nevada Highway Patrol and the Washoe County Coroner's Office had been waiting to release his name pending notification of family.
"Unfortunately they haven't been able to find any next of kin," Primka said.
Keith was wearing dark clothing on the dimly lit roadway, witnesses said.
Blood alcohol tests were performed on the driver of the truck, 28-year-old Juan Luna of Carson City at Carson-Tahoe Hospital Friday night, Primka said.
"He's not at fault in the incident, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor," said NHP Trooper Troy Lindley.
"We don't know about (Keith) because toxicology reports are pending while we wait for the autopsy."
No charges have been filed in the incident, Lindley said.
In a similar incident about four nights ago, a couple reported hitting a man on William Street right in front of Mills Park, Primka said. The man refused medical treatment.
"They just grazed him and he walked away," Primka said. "I don't know if it was the same guy."
That incident was turned over to the Highway Patrol. The sergeant in charge at the time could not be reached for comment.
"It might be there is no record of it," Trooper Lindley said. "If they just walked away, no one was hurt and no charges were filed there might be no report filed."
