Get out the Western garb for an evening dedicated to Nevada's heritage when Gov. Kenny Guinn and first lady Dema Guinn host the Tin Cup Tea and Chuck Wagon BBQ at the Governor's Mansion on Sept. 13.
Dema Guinn initiated the Tin Cup Tea as a fund-raiser for the Nevada State Museum in Carson City and the W.M. Keck Museum at the University of Nevada at Reno's Mackay School of Mines.
"Both of these cultural institutions play an important role in preserving Nevada's heritage," Guinn said. "The funds raised by the Tin Cup Tea allow for programming and operational improvements that could not happen without our support."
The tea and Chuck Wagon BBQ feature a Western barbecue, dancing to the music of the Comstock Cowboys, and a performance by the Guns and Gals of Virginia City. Tours of the Governor's Mansion and Nevada Room, will be given, including the Mackay Tiffany silver, historic fashions, wagons and buggies, and state mineral and fossil specimens.
The W.M. Keck Museum has been part of the Mackay School of Mines since 1908. The museum houses a collection of minerals, fossils, historical mining artifacts from the Comstock and other Nevada mining districts and the celebrated Mackay family silver dinner service.
The museum is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.
