Obituary: George Simmers

A memorial service for George "Ed" Simmers, 77, a Carson City resident for the past three years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Simmers died Sept. 16, 2003, at home. He was born Aug. 1, 1926, in Los Angeles to George and Ida Mae Knight Simmers.

He had a bachelor of science degree in criminology.

He married Olga in 1949.

Mr. Simmers worked for the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department from 1948 until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Masons Lodge 612 in Arcadia, Calif.

He enjoyed swimming and competed in international events, including Australia and Brazil as well as in many states in the United States.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas in 1985.

Among his survivors are his wife of 54 years of Carson City and daughter, Cynthia Simmers of San Gabriel, Calif.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.
