A Zephyr Cove woman was taken to Washoe Medical by Care Flight rescue helicopter after a two-car accident on Highway 50 below Spooner Summit on Friday.
Margaret Angstadt, 45, was driving west in a red 1999 Jeep at noon when she lost control of the vehicle, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Blair Harkleroad.
The preliminary investigation suggests the Jeep spun and crossed into the eastbound lanes.
Heading east at the time was Brian O'Hara of Sparks in a 1992 International flatbed truck.
When O'Hara, 39, saw the Jeep coming toward him he applied the brakes and started to skid. The right side of the Jeep hit the left front of the truck in the eastbound lane.
Angstadt was taken to Washoe Medical Center in serious condition. O'Hara was taken by ambulance to Carson-Tahoe Hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Highway 50 was closed for about 15 minutes while the helicopter landed, Harkleroad said. The road was restricted to two travel lanes for about two hours. Both O'Hara and Angstadt were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident, Harkleroad said.
