Mystery Week sneaks into library next week

Carson City Library will celebrate mystery during the National Library Week beginning Monday.

Las Vegas true-crime journalist and author Cathy Scott will sign books Tuesday. Her well-known murder novels include "The Killing of Tupac Shakur" and "The Murder of Biggie Smalls." Copies of her books will be sold, and the signing benefits the Friends of the Carson City Library.

Scott was a reporter for the Las Vegas Sun until 1998; a crime reporter for the Vista Press, a now-defunct daily newspaper in San Diego County; and is now a freelance reporter and stringer for the New York Times. She is a member of the Authors Guild, the Society of Professional Journalists' Speakers Bureau and the National Speakers Bureau.

On April 21, local broadcaster and journalist Dennis Myers will present "The Disappearance of Roy Frisch," one of Nevada's unsolved mysteries. Frisch, a banker and former Reno city council member, was set to testify in a federal fraud trial in 1934. He disappeared while walking home.

On April 22, Lake Tahoe mystery writer Todd Borg will discuss his Tahoe-based mystery thrillers. He has won many awards.

Carson City Library staff will play two mystery games during the week: "Name That Sleuth" and "Name That Thingamajig." Silhouettes of famous mystery characters from books, film and television will be up throughout the library. In "Thingamajig," patrons will identify obsolete antique objects.
