A Carson City production company this autumn plans to roll out a series of four television documentaries about Nevada's science and technology industry.
Nevada Science and Technology LLC expects to turn a profit by selling the programming to broadcasters and cable companies and selling videos to educational and economic development groups.
Gary Lyon, founder of the company and its executive producer, said last week he believes that the growth of technology and scientific industries in Nevada hasn't been well reported.
"There has not been a focused message about what is happening in science and technology in Nevada," he said.
"Our goal is to put a high-quality media face to all this.
I'd like to think we're going to make 'Nova' sweat a little."
The documentary series to be titled "NEVASAT" (from "Nevada Science and Technology") probably will begin filming in June with completion targeted for early autumn, Lyon said.
Current plans call for each of the one-hour programs to focus on a segment of the state's technology and science industries.
Potential subjects include the state's renewable energy industry as well as genetic engineering and computer science developments in Nevada.
Lyon said he will be looking for public- and private-sector support to help underwrite the documentary series.
The larger goals of Nevada Science and Technology LLC involve encouraging young people in Nevada to pursue entrepreneurial careers in science and technology.
One plan, he said, is creation of a "Young Entrepreneurs Society" that would offer summer camps and other activities to develop entrepreneurial skills among 14- to 19-year-olds in Nevada.
Lyon, who grew up in Carson City and Virginia City, returned to Nevada after a career in technology companies.
He said others with similar stories a group he calls the "Digital 49ers" are quietly building a strong technology industry in the state.
