Oscar-nominated films on screen at college

Six Oscar-nominated animated and live-action short films and one Oscar-nominated short documentary will be showing at Western Nevada Community College's Marlette Hall at 7 p.m. Monday.

The event is a collaboration between Planetary Voices Institute and the Lone Mountain Writers. Hollywood film executive and screenwriting instructor Dan Stroncak from CFP Productions at Paramount Pictures will host the screening.

The live action shorts are: "Die Rote Jacke [The Red Jacket]," 40 minutes, from Germany; "(A) Torzija [(A) Torsion]," 13 minutes, from Slovenia; and "Squash," 28 minutes, from France.

The animated shorts are: "Nibbles," five minutes, from Canada; the 2003 Student Oscar winner "Perpetual Motion," two minutes, by Kimberly Miner from the United States; and the Oscar-winning "Harvie Krumpet," 22 minutes, from Australia.

The short documentary is "Ferry Tales," 40 minutes, an American film by Katja Esson.

Marlette Hall is located in room 100 of the Cedar Building, the southernmost building on the Carson City campus, 2201 W. College Parkway. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Planetary Voices will show the same films today at Lake Tahoe Community College, One College Drive, South Lake Tahoe, and on Sunday at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Nonprofit Center, 948 Incline Way, in Incline Village.

Planetary Voices Institute is an Incline Village-based nonprofit organization dedicated to producing innovative entertainment and educational alternatives. Lone Mountain Writers is a critique group that meets twice monthly on the WNCC Carson City campus. The campus organization is open to all writers at any skill level, and its members do not need to be students of WNCC.
