Retailers are expected to be opening stores by mid-autumn at The Village at Double Diamond, a 136,000-squarefoot center at Double R Boulevard and South Meadows Parkway in south Reno.

Work is just under way on the center, which will be anchored by a 56,000-squarefoot Smith's Supermarket.

Great American Capital and Smith's are the developers of the 14.65-acre site.

Trammell Crow Co.

is the leasing agent.

Christopher Waizmann, a vice president with Trammell Crow, said about 50 percent of the 42,000 square feet in shop space in the center has been leased, and interest has been strong in six building pads.

Among tenants who have leased space, he said, are Ace Hardware which will open a 13,000-square-foot store Taco Bell, Great Clips, Gizmo Wireless, and Sparky's.

Bank of America has leased land for a branch office,Waizmann said.

Negotiations are under way with a convenience store as well as a sandwich shop and a coffeehouse, he said.

Waizmann said tenants like the center's location it's on the going-home side of the street for residents of nearby Double Diamond neighborhoods as well as its proximity to employment centers and the new Washoe Medical Center South Meadows.

General contractor on the project is Wadman Corp.

of Ogden, Utah.

The center was designed by Prescott Muir Architects of Salt Lake City.
