William Lewis Sisley

A memorial service for William Lewis Sisley, 71, a Carson Valley resident for the past five years, will be at noon Saturday at FitzHenry's Mortuary in Gardnerville.

After the service, there will be a gathering at the Sisley home in the Mission Hot Springs area. Maps will be provided at the service.

Mr. Sisley died April 21, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He was born Jan. 21, 1933, in Kyoto, Japan, to Arthur and Ellyn Norris Sisley.

He graduated from high school in Chicago then graduated from the University of Illinois as a metallurgist.

Before moving to this area, he lived in Brighton, Mich.

Mr. Sisley was a reserve officer in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1950 to 1965, serving in Korea and Vietnam. He then worked as a metallurgist for large manufacturers of steel, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the American Bowling Congress and an avid bowler for many years in Illinois, Michigan, California and Nevada. He consistently maintained an average of more than 210. He became a member of the International Footprinters Association in 2003 and graduated from the Douglas County Senior Police Academy in 2003.

Among his survivors are his wife, Patricia Dorrance of Minden; son and daughter-in-law Robert and Kathryn of Miami, Fla.; son Timothy and his fiancee Debbie of Glyn Ellyn, Ill.; and grandson Christopher Sisley of Winter Park, Fla.

A memorial contribution may be made to a favorite charity.
