An accident at Ames Lane and Highway 395 in Pleasant Valley claimed the life of one man, injured another, and backed up rush-hour traffic for hours Monday afternoon.
A 25-year-old Sparks man died after his southbound white 1993 Saturn sedan crossed into the path of a northbound gold 2003 Dodge van driven by Lance Morrison, 58, of Carson City at about 4:13 p.m, said Trooper Chuck Allen of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The Sparks man, who was not identified pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Morrison had to be cut free from his vehicle.
He was taken to Washoe Medical Center by helicopter with a possible compound fracture to his right leg and a possible broken arm
"Mr. Morrison told another trooper at the hospital that he did see the car coming the wrong way, braked, and steered to right, but was unable to avoid the collision," Allen said.
Allen said both northbound lanes were closed while northbound traffic was routed through a southbound lane.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
