Carson High School makes administration changes

The new principal won't be the only change at Carson High School this year.

"We've not really changed the overall number of administrators at the high school, we've just changed the duties around," explained Richard Stokes, associate superintendent of human resources for the Carson City School District. "I think this is a little more in step with how administrative staffs are organized at other high schools."

Under the advice of incoming Principal Fred Perdomo, the vice principal position will be divided between two administrators.

Deans Carl Henry and Pat Houlihan will share the vice principal duties as well as take on additional tasks.

"While they will still be working with students, they will also have other responsibilities such as taking care of the grounds and working on the curriculum," Stokes said.

The vice principal position was left vacant when Perdomo was selected to replace Glen Adair, who retired as principal at the end of the last school year.

Stokes told school board members Tuesday night that school officials are looking to fill one dean position after the two were promoted and also replace dean Jeff Evans, who accepted a position at Douglas High School this year.

Along with the vacancies at the high school, other positions must also be filled before school begins Aug. 31.

Applications are being reviewed for a kindergarten teacher at Bordewich-Bray Elementary School, an English-as-a-second-language teacher at Fremont Elementary School, a second-grade teacher at Empire Elementary School and a special-education teacher at Seeliger Elementary School.

"We have lots of applicants, it's just a matter of going through the process and interviewing these folks," Stokes said. "We're hopeful we'll be ready to go when school starts."

He said he has seen teachers returning to their classrooms, getting everything ready for the new beginning.

"They're anxious to get started," he said. "It looks like we're geared up for another good year."
