Best-selling author Dale Brown of Incline Village was sentenced Monday to six months' home confinement and three years probation for filing false tax returns.
Brown has written a number of thrillers, including "Wings of Fire," "Warrior Class" and "Battle Born," based on his experiences as an U.S. Air Force pilot.
He pleaded guilty to charges he used his corporation Target Direct Productions and an offshore tax scheme to deduct fictitious expenses totaling nearly $342,000.
Special Agent for IRS Criminal Investigations Erick Martinez said Brown's sentence was based partly on his cooperation with the government in prosecuting the promoter of the trust scheme, Terry Neal.
The offshore, tax-evasion scheme, according to Martinez, was promoted by Neal, who has also pleaded guilty to one count of conspiring to defraud the government.
Brown, 47, will also have to pay a $25,000 fine to settle the case.
