Intake No. 2: The white/yellow Stinger seems to be the best lure, either using a bobber or bouncing off the bottom.

North Lake: Has anglers beaming with nice stringers.

A 4-pound, 1-ounce rainbow and a 3-pound, 9-ounce rainbow, both taken on nightcrawlers.

Sabrina Lake: Is getting pretty low now, but still some good reports on fishing. It appears that going deep is the key.

South Lake: Fishing stayed slow this week, with a few anglers reporting good fish, but the majority having to work pretty hard for fish.

Depth seemed to be the key with nightcrawlers, going to 40 feet or more, doing the best.

Morning fishing is best with the storms coming in at about 4 p.m. and being pretty rough until about 6 p.m.

Bishop Creek: Water level is still fairly low on the South Fork and fishing was fair.

Power Bait, nightcrawlers and a variety of small lures brought out some nice stringers.

Most anglers are reporting OK fishing with afternoons being very tough with the storms getting the local brush wet and it gets pretty cold.

DF&G and Alpers continue stocking so the fish are there but with the funny weather it is the diehards with the limits.

• BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:

Sabrina Lake: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425): This week, Mother Nature has decided to bless us with afternoon thunder showers. Along with those showers, a bit of new snow was seen on the high peaks behind the lakes.

Fishing was good for most anglers this past week.

Trolling flashers with a worm or Rapala lure brought in limits, along with throwing flies such as Woolly Bugger or Matuka, in the morning and evening.

Good News: We received Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout this past week.

DF&G stocked the lake on Aug. 10, with pan-sized trout along with some trophy-sized trout.

• BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said both Upper and Lower were good over the weekend.

The Nadler family of Gardnerville reported limits of small rainbows on Power Bait on Saturday and Sunday.

• BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707) said, "It is about the same as last week.

The best fishing is still from boats that are anchored and stillfishing with Power Bait or nightcrawlers. Some of the boaters are casting small lures.

The marina is closed because the water is too low to launch a boat there, but you can still launch smaller boats from shore at places like "The Bath Tub."

• BURNSIDE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said that Calif. F&G will not plant the lake this year.

• CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said it did pretty well on Saturday and on Sunday.

The fishing was reported to be decent in all the lakes above 7,000 feet.

• EAST CARSON RIVER, CALIF: Brad Davis at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229):

We were swamped at the resort, yesterday. It was like a Saturday for the first six hours.

Alpine County planted on Friday, and there were some very large fish caught.

The action has been fast and furious, with fishermen reporting being broken off while using 6-8 pound test lines.

Paul Mannelly of Minden caught an 8-pound rainbow on worms.

Sam Huff of Gardnerville used a Panther/Martin lure to nail a 7-pound, 1-ounce rainbow.

Joe Civaino caught a 7-pound, 4-ounce rainbow.

Steve Gomez caught a 6-pound rainbow.

Andy Doolittle of Sacramento used a Shafer fly for a 22-inch rainbow.

• WEST CARSON RIVER, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported the water is low and clear.

Alpine County planted on Friday.

Joe Digiordano of Sacramento caught a 8-pound, 5-ounce rainbow on Salmon eggs with 6-pound test line.

There was also a 4-pounder and a 3-pounder caught.

• CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Will open Sept. 1.

• DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270):

Trolling is very slow. Shore fishing is slow, but best in the mornings at Mallard and Honker Coves. The water temp is 73 degrees at the surface.

• FEATHER RIVER AT OROVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported 6,500 CFS is the water release on the Feather.

Fishing last week for Kings was fair, up and down.

When caught, chrome king salmon are bright fish, 12-25 lbs., occasional 30 pounder.

Back-trolling Flatfish lures, green & gold, T-50's.

Starting to catch a few on roe.

Fishing between Oroville and Gridley.

• FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Trout fishing is improving daily.

Trollers are using Midge Wobblers.

Still fishermen are using worms or Power Bait.

Bank fishermen are doing better, now, at Big Cove, the Dam, Lunker Point and Turkey Point.

• HEENAN LAKE, CALIF: Will open Sept. 3.

• INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby said, "The surface temp of the water is pretty high. I would rate it as only fair to poor."

Summit Lake (above Indian Creek): There is hardly any water left. It has all evaporated.

• KIRMAN (CARMEN) LAKE: Jim Reid reported that a fly fisherman caught and released 10 brookies in a half day of fishing from a float tube. The brookies were 16-20 inches in length and he was using small streamer flies.

• LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: An employee at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): We had a fisherman buy some minnows from us. He checked back in to tell us that he had caught 11 White Catfish on those minnows.

We got quite a bit of rain, yesterday (Sunday) and that should make the fishing improve.

• PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Is closed to cutthroat trout fishing until Oct. 1.

• RED LAKE CALIF: Dave Kirby said it did pretty well on Saturday and on Sunday.

The fishing was reported to be decent in all the lakes above 7,000 feet.

• SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) sent in this report:

Redding to Anderson: Water flow is 10,500 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is still great with 15-25 fish days. Catching and releasing wild, trophy rainbows, up to 6 pounds. Using Micro Mayfly and Fox's Pupahs.

Red Bluff: Fishing for kings is picking up, finally.

Catching nice 15-30 lbs salmon, bright.

Counts passing the Diversion Dam are increasing, more salmon making their way up river.

Watch for fishing to improve as the weeks pass, the salmon are making their way slowly up river.

Fishing for the kings will only keep getting better.

Using Flatfish T-50's, and bouncing roe.

• LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

The fishing has been very consistent, but nothing super big.

I troll 250-550 feet deep in the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 150-300 feet deep in the Dollar Point, Cal Neva Point and Tahoe City areas.

• LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling in the Camp Richardson and Baldwin Beach areas with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 160-280 feet deep.

• LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said that Cave Rock Shelf has been producing mostly smaller Macks.

Jiggers are doing the best.

The Macks are small, running 1-3 pounds.

• TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Lower Twin: Carey at the Twin Lakes Resort (760-932-7751): Fishing has been good.

Lots of limits and some nice fish are still showing.

A 4-pound, 5-ounce rainbow with a Super Duper lure and a 3-pound, 3-ounce rainbow with Power Bait.

6-year-old Kelly Strickland of Davis, Calif. caught her biggest fish, yet, a nice 2 1/4 pound rainbow with Power Bait.

Upper Twin: Mono Village (760-932-7071) reported:

Jim Cabral from Anaheim, Calif., caught an 8-pound, 8 ounce rainbow and a 5-pound, 12-ounce rainbow, both on Chartreuse Power Bait.

A 6-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on Chartreuse Power Bait and a 3-pound, 3-ounce brown on a nightcrawler.

The Kokanee Salmon have started their run to Upper Robinson Creek to spawn.

Robinson Creek: Doing good with small lures or Salmon eggs.

• VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Jim Reid reported that both lakes are doing very good with just about everything.

• WALKER LAKE, NEV: An unconfirmed report that fishermen are doing well by fishing the deep water in front of "The Cliffs" very early in the mornings.

• WALKER RIVERS:

East Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid said that the water is 69-70 degrees coming out of the dam and the water flow is pretty good at 128 CFS.

The weeds are growing and the fishing is still pretty good.

The fly fishermen are using dry flies, mostly Caddis.

West Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid said it is still pretty good for anglers using bait or small spinners or flies in the Walker River Canyon but that the fishing has been very tough in the Pickle Meadows area.

• WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "We got a little rain shower, yesterday (Sunday), but nothing like you, there in Carson City.

The reservoir is holding its water level better than last year.

The fishing has been kind of slow for the trout, but the bigger Perch are starting to hit and the Cats are still biting.

On Friday, Leonso Rubio of Golconda and three other fishermen caught 4 Channel Catfish that ranged from 10 pounds to 15-pounds, 12-ounces. They were fishing with shrimp.

They also caught 31 Perch in the 7-11 inch range and 4-5 trout.

Both the Bruneau River and the Owyhee River (below the dam) have been red hot.

The fishermen are using a Colorado Spinner with a fly behind it.

If you fish the Owyhee River, watch out for rattlesnakes. They are all over that area.

The road construction is still going full blast on the main highway.
