Fifteen artists set to work at Art in the Garden show today

Lovers of painted flowers who also enjoy looking at living flowers have a chance Saturday to combine the two during the Art in the Garden show at the Greenhouse Garden Center at 2450 S. Curry St.

In a live demonstration of painting and other arts, 15 artists will set up easels and brushes and create new pictures or carve wood from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. while visitors watch.

There will also be a sampling of wines from the Tahoe Ridge Winery during the demonstration. And to complete the artists setting, a string quartet will play concert music.

It's free, except for a modest charge for the wine tasting.

Some of the artists to be on hand include floral painters Gary and Kathwren Jenkins, pastels worker Carol Foldvary-Anderson, Kate Aulerey in oils, Richard Rose working in mixed media and William Broderson, a wood turner.

All will be working among the live flowers of the Greenhouse. The artists will also be selling finished works. Live flowers will also be sold.

Gary Jenkins was host of a program on PBS television for 18 years.

"I'm sort of the Pied Piper for artists in the show," said Jenkins. "Last year my wife and I were the only artists to take part, and this year I've sort of rallied artists around."

Jenkins said he has found working in a garden "a nice place to paint."
