Like the brewery employees pictured in a mural along the east wall, guests at the Brewery Arts Center's 12th annual Beer Tasting and Auction will hold glasses of golden, delicious beer and smile on Sept. 10.

The beer tasting is the arts center's largest fund-raiser.

"The money basically goes to our operating fund," said Tom Corbin, a member of the center's board.

"Some of the programs it benefits are the BAC Stage Kids (theater group), which is our premier program, in my opinion; and it helps pay the bills to keep the theater and classrooms open; helps fund the music events that we hold and all our art classes including stained glass, oil and water painting and even how to make a guitar."

The event will be in the historic building at 449 W. King St., originally home to the Tahoe Beer brewery. Guests may try many different ales and lagers in a tasting glass they can keep.

"We'll have an enormous variety of beer - four full kegs." Corbin said. "We had close to 50 different brews last year."

There will also be food, live entertainment, a raffle and a silent auction.

Items in the auction will include golf at Genoa Lakes Golf and Thunder Canyon courses, overnight stays at Harrah's Tahoe and historic Bliss Mansion, a glider ride over Lake Tahoe by Soar Minden, ski passes to Diamond Peak Ski Resort, a season pass to the Carson City Symphony, a cruise on the M.S. Dixie or the Tahoe Queen; tickets to performances by the Mile High Jazz Band; dinner for four at Carson Nugget Casino steakhouse and several items by artists who show at BAC's Artisan Store, including an hour of harp music by Brenda Locke-Knight.

"Those are just a few examples - they're still coming in," Corbin said.

The event is 5:30 p.m. until it dies down, he said.

Admission is a $25 donation.
