Esther Nancy "Etty" Halsey Vowles, 85, died Aug. 25, 2004, at Portland Adventist Hospital in Portland, Ore., of emphysema and congestive heart failure. She was born April 27, 1919, in Union, Ore., to Gracen and Worth Halsey.
She lived in Ely for 20 years and Reno and Carson City for several years. She then moved back to Oregon, where she retired from Meadow Gold Dairies 24 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Keith Warren Vowles; daughters Diana Lynn Pinkerton and Candace Ann Syme; and nine brothers and sisters.
Among her survivors are her daughters Sandra Jo Vowles and Robyn Leigh Restel of Portland; sister, Elma Jean Westenskow of Canby, Ore.; son-in-law, Daniel Syme of McGill; granddaughter, Monica Lynn Simon of Ely; grandsons Gregory Keith Vowles of Carson City and Boyd Warren Syme of Elko; great-grandchildren Angel, Elizabeth, Skylar and Nathan of Elko and Shea Simon of Ely; and eight nieces and nephews.
A ceremony will be at Oregon Beach.
