Ruth Irene Mulvaney, 86, a Bakersfield resident, died Dec. 13, 2004. She was born Aug. 20, 1918, at her parent's farmhouse near Howard, Kan.
She left home at an early age, working for AT&T and relocated to San Francisco. She was an overseas telephone operator and worked for the telephone company for 37 years.
She married Russell Mulvaney and they remained in San Francisco until 1966 when they moved to Carson City. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mrs. Mulvaney was a charter member of the San Francisco 49ers fan club and rarely missed a game at Kezar Stadium. She enjoyed aquatics, traveling and the outdoors. She was a lifelong member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
Among her survivors are her daughter, Linda Mortimer of Bakersfield, Calif.; son, Russell II of Carson City; grandchildren Jennifer Garcia and Wendy Mortimer, both of Bakersfield and Erin Mulvaney and Megan Mulvaney, both of Phoenix; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Gabriel and Shanda of Bakersfield.
A private service will be held.
Hospice of Bakersfield is in charge of arrangements.
