Scott Bice, commissioner of the state's Mortgage Licensing Division, promised a crackdown on unlicensed firms as the division opened its doors early this year.
Bice, a one-time mortgage banker himself, proved true to his word.
So far, mortgage firms that failed to comply with state law most of them, incidentally, out-of-state firms have paid more than $700,000 in
fines.
And the mortgage commissioner has appeared in publications ranging from MortgageDaily.com to the Wall Street Journal, spreading his word that Nevada isn't easy pickings for rogue operators any more.
