RENO - Nevada game wardens are seeking information on two bull elk that were poached and left in the field in Lincoln and White Pine counties during this fall's archery hunting season.
David Pfiffner, supervising warden with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, said one elk was shot with an arrow on a ranch about 12 miles north of Spring Valley State Park in Lincoln County.
The seven-by-eight bull was seen alive around 5 a.m. Sept. 14 and found dead in an alfalfa field about 90 minutes later, Pfiffner said. The animal died about 100 yards from where it was shot.
A second bull was poached around the same time in the Success Summit area southeast of Ely. That bull's head had been removed.
Investigators urged anyone with information about either incident to call any state wildlife office or the Operation Game Thief hot line at 800-992-3030.
