VIRGINIA CITY - Investigators have been unable to locate a Virginia City man wanted in the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend Dec. 13.

Gary Duane Brown, 51, is possibly in the Northern California, Northern Nevada, or Idaho area, said Lt. Mike Allen of the investigation division of the Department of Public Safety. Allen said the last contact anyone had with Brown was Dec. 19 when he called a relative from Reno.

Brown is suspected of gunning down Linda Ziegler, 52, a 28-year-veteran of the San Francisco Police Department.

Her body was discovered in the Virginia City Highlands home the couple shared after Storey County deputies went there on a welfare check Dec. 14.

Brown was last seen that day in Reno.

He is described as 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 200 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. He is believed to be driving a silver/gray 1989 Toyota four-wheel-drive pickup with Nevada license plates 682 NVN.
