A funeral Mass for Raymond "Dutch" Borda, 83, a lifelong resident of this area, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church. A rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.
Mr. Borda died Dec. 23, 2004, at his home in Carson City. He was born July 17, 1921, in Minden to Ramon and Gorgonia Borda.
From the age of 18, he was a sheepherder. He owned a ranch in Dayton, where he would winter his herd. During the summer months, he and his brother Pete would trail the sheep herd through the Pine Nut Mountains to other areas, including Pickel Meadow and Sonora Pass.
He was a Catholic and a member of St. Teresa. He was a fan of the San Francisco Giants baseball and the 49ers football team.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Lucy Anne Sikes in 1975, sister Marie Corda in 1991 and brothers Pete in 1996 and Bert in 1997.
Among his survivors are his wife of 60 years, Eileen of Carson City; son and daughter-in-law Tom and Sue of Carson City; son Paul of Sparks; daughter and son-in-law Terri and John Shier of Long Beach, Calif.; sisters Helen Oxoby of Carson City and Juanita Sommers of Stateline; brother John of Carson City; and grandchildren Stephanie, Jessica and Matthew Borda and Samantha and Shannon Shier.
Burial will be at Walton's Carson Gardens Cemetery.
Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
