Carson-Tahoe reassigns 20 jobs

To increase efficiency, Carson-Tahoe Hospital has reassigned almost 20 full-time jobs. Four of the 1,200 positions at Carson-Tahoe were eliminated in the process, said Ed Epperson, the hospital's chief executive officer.

"From now on, we'll be looking at the programs we have, how we staff them, and what it costs us," he said. "We'll be doing some fine-tuning with respect to our personnel and how they spend their time so we can allocate our resources more efficiently."

Hospital spokeswoman Cheri Glockner said most of the employees were reassigned to ensure staffing levels directly involved with patient care are adequate, or better.

"It's always tough when people hear their positions have been changed or eliminated, but those employees who lost their jobs will be the first re-hired," he said. "Before we move to the new campus, we'll be establishing a recruitment plan. We'll be hiring between 100 and 200 more people for the expanded beds, Carson Surgical Center and the Cancer Center."

Carson-Tahoe Hospital's new Regional Medical Center is being built and should be completed by December 2005.

On 55 acres between Eagle Ranch Road and Highway 395 in North Carson City, the 161-bed, 350,000-square-foot hospital will include enhanced cardiac services, a three-day surgery center and a separate cancer center.
