Douglas County resident Andy Hettrick plans to build a $6 million, 84-room hotel between Dori Way and Lompa Lane, near the proposed Highway 395 and Highway 50 interchange in Carson City.
The project has finished its major review with the city, a process to help the developer through the permitting process. No date has been set for construction of project, said Lee Plemel, Carson City's principle planner.
"People come to us frequently with these proposals," Plemel said. "We see a lot of projects like this that never happen."
A former Douglas County Sheriff's deputy, Hettrick is the son of Assemblyman Lynn Hettrick, R-Gardnerville.
He was could not be reached Thursday for comment.
Hawthorne Suites would include rooms with full kitchens. The three-story building is planned for 4.3 acres of property owned by the Hettricks.
An adjacent tire store would remain and much of the property would be left undeveloped once the hotel is built, said Joe McCarthy, Carson City's development/redevelopment manager.
"There are lots of other commercial possibilities at the site," McCarthy said.
Dan Hague, owner of Tequila Dan's, endorsed the project. His restaurant is on the opposite side of the freeway.
"I'd be the happiest camper in the world if a hotel goes in there," he said. "It would pay for the suffering I've gone through during construction of the freeway."
