Walgreen plans two new stores in area

Walgreen Co.

plans to open two stores in the Truckee Meadows this year, part of an aggressive national growth plan by the retailer based in Deerfield, Ill.

The company plans an October opening for a store at South Virginia Street and Arrowcreek Parkway in the Damonte Ranch area.

A store at the northeast corner of Vista Boulevard and D'Andrea Parkway in Sparks is scheduled for an Aug.

31 opening,Walgreen spokeswoman Carol Hively said last week.

Both stores will be 14,560 square feet, the standard size for a new Walgreen store.

The company, which had 4,290 stores at the start of this year, plans to add about 450 locations nationwide in its fiscal year which ends August 31, Hively said.

It operates 48 stores in Nevada, but only three are in northern Nevada two in Reno and one in Carson City.
