Leasing ready for Fallon Business Park

Construction is nearly complete on the first phase of the Fallon Business Park in the southeastern section of the Churchill County community.

When complete, the complex will cover 80-85 acres just off Harrigan Road and be home to several light industrial companies.

The first phase of the project began late last summer and will be finished in the next few weeks.

A proposed second phase of the park is expected to begin in a couple of years depending on how quickly the first one is fully leased.

"Both the city and Churchill County have wanted this for a long time," said Fallon City Engineer Larry White.

White said the park should be a boon for new business in the area and provide job opportunities.

Area officials hope to attract companies in fields such as food processing and printing and reproduction.

White said the first phase of the park is 40 acres and will be home to 15- 20 businesses.

If a second phase is ultimately built, it will duplicate that of the first phase at about 40-45 acres.

Leasing in the park has yet to begin as the city and the real estate agent handling the property haven't settled on lease rates.White said, however, several companies have shown interest in the site.

The first phase was built at a cost of $1.5 million.

A & K Earth Movers Inc.

was the prime contractor in the project.

The majority of the money to build the park came from a federal Economic Development Authority grant.

While White said the city is excited to get an industrial park to the area, he said that they had to make a concerted effort not to disturb the nearby residential district near its location.

That's why only light industrial companies are allowed in the park so they will not be intrusive to area residents.

"We didn't want anything that's going to work 24 hours a day," White said.
