• Volunteers from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and friends and neighbors of the Kelly and Staub families, who lost their King Canyon homes in the Waterfall fire, will clear rubble from the burned homes to prepare for reconstruction. A community barbecue and celebration to say "thank you" to firefighters, volunteers and all others who responded to aid during the Waterfall fire will begin at noon on the Legislature lawn. Call Mark Frady, Kiwanis Club of Carson City, 883-8897, for information.
Tuesday
The Burned Area Emergency Response team will present its evaluation of rehabilitation of burned areas at a 6 p.m. meeting at the Carson City Community Center.
Wednesday
Ed Smith, natural resource specialist, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension will and Stacey Giomi, Carson City acting fire chief, will give a free "Living With Fire" workshop at 7 p.m. in the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. Smith and Giomi will discuss how a wildfire threatens a house and make recommendations to help reduce the threat. Elwood Miller, executive coordinator, Nevada Fire Safe Council, will also be on hand to discuss resources available to communities for reducing the wildfire threat. Call Smith at 782-9960.
