Children will be the featured and honored guests Sunday at Ross Gold Park as the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada celebrates National KidsDay.
"We'd like to recognize the kids," said Maria Wilson, event coordinator. "We want them to know they're special to us."
Sunday's event will start at 9 a.m. and will offer free hot dogs, face painting, tug of war, dunk tank and other activities.
Children and families are encouraged to bring swimsuits, a towel, lawn chairs and sunscreen.
Free T-shirts will be given to the first 50 children.
In its third year, the club expects about 200 families at the event. The National KidsDay campaign is attempting to acquire its official day on the national calendar by 2006.
Boys & Girls Clubs of America and KidsPeace created the day in 2001 to foster stronger relationships between adults and children by educating them on the importance and value of spending meaningful time together, according to the club's news release.
