Lyon County casino owner expanding to Carson

The owner of two casinos in Fallon and one in Silver Springs is adding to his gaming business with a casino in Carson City.

D. Scott Tate and a partner plan to open the Comstock Casino in Carson City July 1.

Tate is the sole owner and shareholder of DCW Corp. and owner of the Fallon Nugget, Bonanza and the Silver Springs Nugget.

Tate met Gene Wallace 18 months ago. They teamed up on the new casino, which will include a bar and a restaurant.

"I wanted to participate in the Carson market, and this was a good way to do that," Tate said about his partnership.

The men are remodeling a 9,500 square-foot building at 3680 Goni Road, just off College Parkway.

Wallace moved his bar business to the present location in conjunction with the Carson Freeway bypass project.

Tate said his casino sits one block from the 395 bypass.

Phase 1 of the highway is scheduled to be done in a year, with the entire route completed by 2010.

The Comstock Casino is also just two blocks from a planned Super Wal-Mart.

In addition to the bar and slot machines, Lefty's Comstock Diner is part of Tate's business plan. Tim and Cheryl McConnell will operate the restaurant. The couple has been in the restaurant business 15 years, and recently owned Lefty's Burgers & Such in Carson City.

While working on the new casino in Carson City, Tate has concentrated on updating his Fallon casinos.

DCW has 5.5 acres on Main Street in Fernley. The former Branding Iron Saloon and trailer park have been demolished, leaving the land ready for development.

"At this time, I do not know what we're going to do there (in Fernley). We anticipate some type of gaming," Tate said about the Fernley property. "I think the future is very bright in Northern Nevada."
