A trusty with the Carson City Jail was still missing Tuesday after walking away from the Carson City Safety Complex sometime Monday afternoon.

Police are searching for Anthony Wygant, 36, who was last seen near the Safeway grocery store about 4 p.m. by an off-duty police officer. When the officer approached, Wygant fled.

He was in custody for violating city probation, possibly on a domestic-dispute charge. He had 20 days left on the sentence, said Sgt. Dan Chaney of the Carson City Jail.

On June 8, Wygant was made a trusty. Jail trusties are free to move about the safety complex doing various tasks, such as moving furniture or cleaning the safety complex. They must check in at specific times. Wygant was spotted by the off-duty deputy before he was next scheduled to check in, Chaney said.
