A Silver Springs home was destroyed by fire Friday.

Firefighters worked for about 45 minutes to stop the inferno which engulfed the single-family home near Lake Lahontan.

Fire Chief John Gillenwater, of Central Lyon County Fire District, said the single-wide mobile home at 3365 Holly Avenue was "100 percent destroyed."

"It's in a rural area so the fire had plenty of time to build up before someone could report it," he said.

No one was home at the time, he said, noting two adults live at the address with owner Dominic Scurti.

Crews from Central Lyon County, Mason Valley and North Lyon County fire districts kept the fire from spreading to an out-building, a camp trailer, a car and the surrounding wildland on the five-acre lot.

The Red Cross provided meal and clothing vouchers to the family, Gillenwater said.

About seven engines responded to the 1 p.m. blaze. Because the area is rural, water trucks were used, he said.
