Hazel E. "Nana" Avery died March 4, 2004. She was born July 13, 1917, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Canada, to John Levi and Cecilia Josephine Hunter.

She married Ernie Avery on June 25, 1943, in Vancouver, British Columbia. In 1956, they moved to the United States and became citizens.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Among her survivors are her brother, Gerald Hunter and sister, Dorothea Kidd, both of Canada; daughters and sons-in-law Diane and Gordon Heldebrant of North Carolina and Carolyn and Randy Gerrard of Carson City; granddaughters and husbands Shannon and Cory Fowler of Dayton and Jennifer and Vic Freeman and Natalie and Blake Read, all of Carson City; and great-grandchildren Kaeleigh, Hannah, Michael, Matthew, Jane and Avery.

At her request, there will be no service. A private family celebration of life will be held.

Capitol City Cremation and Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
