Springtime ways to lend a helping hand to students of all ages, including WNCC

Spring events are in the air, so take your pick from all-star baseball legend Steve Garvey, wine tasting, comedians, champagne and chocolates.

Of course, you could always attend the Kiwanis Hawaiian night if you can find tickets.

The Magic of Hawaii Saturday features the Birds of Paradise Dancers at the Carson City Nugget. At last check, there were only 15 tickets, so call quickly. They are still accepting raffle prizes. Afterwards, the Cigar Bar welcomes anyone with a Hawaiian shirt and a lei.

Thanks to Western Nevada Community College, you can meet baseball great Steve Garvey. Nicknamed the "Iron Man," for establishing the National League record of playing in 1,207 consecutive games, he played for the Los Angeles Dodgers during most of his career.

Garvey was a four-time Gold Glove winner, the 1974 National League MVP, played six seasons with 200 or more hits batting .393 in 10 All-star Games, and was the 1974 and 1978 All-star MVP. He had a Major League record of 193 consecutive, errorless games at first base.

Here's an update on Adrienne Jordan's senior project clothes-shopping spree on April 7. She could still use some boys clothing sizes 16-18 to 32-38 waists, all shirt sizes, and shorts.

She is handing out her 250 flyers so needy students know the date. If you have anything to donate, call Adrienne.
