Garvey fund-raiser is tonight

Western Nevada Community College's fund-raiser for its athletic programs, featuring keynote speaker Steve Garvey is tonight.

The event will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Carson City Community Center. Channel 8 sports anchor Bryan Samudio will be the master of ceremonies.

The event will feature tri-tip, chicken, hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, cracker jacks and ice cream.

There will be silent and live auctions. The first section of the silent auction will be closed at 7:10 p.m., the second section of the silent auction will close at 7:20 p.m. and the third section of the silent auction will close at 7:30 p.m. The live auction will begin at 8 p.m.

Steve Garvey will speak at about 8 p.m. and a question and answer session is scheduled for 8:30-8:45 p.m. There will also be other activities, including a speed gun and agility ladder.

Every adult who buys a ticket to the event will receive a $40 gift certificate to Thunder Canyon, which is also providing all the wine for the event. Other sponsors include Albertsons, Java Joes, Capital Beverages and the Sausage Factory.

Tickets are $75 each and $50 for ages 16 and under. Reserved tables for 10 can be purchased for $1,000 and includes 10 autographed baseball.
