A graveside service for Leola Hollingsworth Armstrong, 82, a Port Townsend, Wash., resident and Nevada resident for most of her life, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lovelock Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Mrs. Armstrong died April 29, 2004, at home of cancer. She was born July 1, 1921, in Lovelock to Ed and Ruth Davis Hollingsworth.
She graduated from Pershing County High School and was a member of its alumni association.
Mrs. Armstrong served for 28 years as secretary of the Nevada Senate and was an elected member of the Legislature's Hall of Fame. She was active in Democratic Party politics, serving as chairwoman of many presidential election campaigns. She was also instrumental in a campaign which resulted in the repeal of a retirement plan for legislators, while serving as state director of Common Cause.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints and director of the choir and many music programs.
She was preceded in death by her brother Edgar Hollingsworth and sisters Laverne Hollingsworth and Nancy Gomes.
Among her survivors are her husband of 44 years, Bryn; daughters Amanda Armstrong and LaVola Robindeaux, both of Port Townsend; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Kenny Cervantes of Reno; brother and sister-in-law Eugene and Anita Sullivan of Reno; brother Terry Sullivan of Washoe Valley; numerous nieces and nephews; and foster children Arturo Nieto, Christina and Leslie Nieto of California and Hector Gonzales of Miami.
