Lots of "stuff" going on in Carson this week ... today you can take yourself to the Capital Christian School at 1600 Snyder Ave. (it's on the road to the Stewart Indian School) and go to its open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. If you're nice, they might even give you a cookie ... at the very least, they'll pray for you ...

And while you might be celebrating Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, also think about celebrating "Ocho de Mayo" ... a traditional Mexican dinner at St. Teresa's Church on Saturday at 5 p.m. to benefit their "Youth Mission Trip to Mexico" in August ... tickets are $20 per person, and can be obtained by calling the church at 882-1968 ... this is a no-brainer if you don't want to cook this weekend ... muy bien (that's almost the complete extent of our Spanish vocabulary). ...

In case you didn't know ... we have winners abounding in Carson City this week ... DeeAnn Parsons got her black belt certificate in tai chi chuan (does anyone need a bodyguard?) ... Norma Conway was named "Woman of the Year" by Beta Sigma Phi sorority ... deservedly so ... and Ryan Costella received a $7,500 scholarship from the NCAA (he's one of our great Carson swimmers, currently going to Villanova) ... he's done, well, "swimmingly," in his school career ... congratulations to all. ...

We, in the meantime, have batted zero ... we did not get flowers, either, on National Columnists Day (frankly, we didn't know there was one), April 18 (Barry Smith was complaining earlier about this) ... nor have we been inundated with offers to ride in the Nevada Day Parade with our tiaras on ... nor have we won the lottery ... it goes on and on ... whine, whine, whine (come to think of it, maybe "wine, wine, wine" would cheer us up immensely ..."We'll drink to that"). ...

One nice thing happened though ... we fulfilled our breakfast obligation (we were a "silent auction" item at WNCC's "Steve Garvey" dinner) and took Donna Calhoun and Barry Wynott to the Cracker Box and had a wonderful time ... we foraged through an asparagus omelet, a pancake sandwich, pork chop and eggs and blueberry oatmeal ... well, actually, we ate them separately, but I'm sure Jerry Massad, the owner, would have blended them if we'd asked (now, there's a disgusting thought) ... we also solved the problems of the world and had a great time ... and thanks, gang, for bidding on us. ...

Jim Gallegos, the guru of the freeway, told Carolyn to say that if anyone has a question about it, to call him at 888-7320 ... but be nice (we've given them so much heat, it's a wonder he'll talk to anyone). ...

"Frank and Earnest," the guys in the Sunday funnies, mentioned a tower in Katangi, India, that is supposed to be completed in 2008 and financed by the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi of Beatles' fame ... it's to be 224 stories high, topping out at 2,222 feet ... a quasi-pyramid shape that would make it the tallest building in the world. Sooooo, any bets on what will be finished first? Pick one: the tower, the freeway, the OH or (a new contender) the Lucky Spur ... (we already know we're going to "heck" when our time comes ... so don't say it ...).

AARP says you can call them for a description of the Medicare drug bill to have it explained in "plain English" ... excuse us ... why didn't they write in that in the first place? Or did they have "gobbledygook" training before they put it together ... like most legal and medical stuff? Phooey. ...

Carolyn wants to brag about her new niece, Shea Rochelle Dunn, a beautiful baby girl born to her proud parents, Jamie and Billy Dunn ... let's hope she takes after her great Auntie ... then again. ...

Without spilling names, we know of a dear lady who had a wonderful time in the "home" before she died ... every day, she would have ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner. One day, her daughter came in to see a delightful concoction of ice cream with something pink on it ... she asked, "What's that?" and was told, "It's a sundae, with Pepto-Bismol and Rice-Krispies on it ... quite delicious!" All we can say is, "Don't knock it 'till you've tried it." ...

And to anyone we offend, we're sorry ... but learn to laugh at yourselves ... we certainly do ... it's much more fun. ...
