Carson blaze closes metal shop

Fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a blaze Friday morning that damaged a North Carson City business.

Workers at Metal Solutions, a precision sheet-metal shop on Forrest Way off Goni Road, saw flames inside the east wall of the shop about 11 a.m.

Building owner Arlen Bean, who has an office in a separate part of the building said he was alerted to the fire when the electricity to the building went off.

Workers tried to extinguish the interior fire with water when they realized a larger blaze was burning on the other side of the metal wall.

"There were a lot of items piled up against the outside of the building including a trailer used to contain trash," said Battalion Chief Richard Chrzanowski. The fire appears to have begun in the trailer, he said, which in turn burned through the metal and caught insulation and paneling on fire inside the building.

"Due to the amount of fire, it pretty much incinerated the trailer," he said.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze within 15 minutes.

Damage to the property was estimated at $30,000.

"The investigator is still working on it. There are a number of things he needs to look at," Chrzanowski said. "The fire is still under investigation."

No injuries were reported.
