Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center
Where: 80 acres located at the north end of Carson City on Eagle Valley Ranch Road, west of Highway 395
What: Campus will include a main building and various free-standing buildings including a short-stay surgical hospital, accredited cancer center, new central plant, a patient-family lodging facility and medical/administrative office buildings.
Size: 350,000 square feet or twice the size of the existing building.
Cost: Construction budget $65 million, entire project $132 million.
When: Ground breaking was July 2003. The center is scheduled to open in 2005 with about 1,200 employees.
Future plans: Carson-Tahoe Hospital's existing building will be converted to a long-term acute-care facility. The transition is expected in 2006. The 65-bed facility will integrate many of the services already available at the hospital, including lab, X-ray, food service and a pharmacy. Plans are to fill about 75 percent of the hospital, leaving room for other services.
