After drinking at a local bar Thursday afternoon, a Carson City man rolled his car off of Ormsby Road and ran from the accident, abandoning his severely injured passenger.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., Shane Masters, 34, had finished drinking beer at Bully's Restaurant and drove eastbound on Ormsby Road with his passenger, a man in his 50s.

As Masters rounded a curve just west of Washington Blvd., he lost control of his blue Ford Fiesta, skidding off the side of the road, said Carson City Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Cullen.

The car plowed through a fence, rolled over an irrigation canal, and skidded to a halt in a field on all four wheels.

Masters was driving well over 60 mph around the sharp curve, Cullen said.

Nearby resident Sam Pincock, 17, heard the screeching tires and thuds as he looked for a CD in his car parked car in his front yard on Stewart Street.

"We were just about to eat Thanksgiving dinner, but my mom was upset because the turkey wasn't cooked all the way."

Pincock said, after the commotion, he ran to the Fiesta's passenger door to help, and heard Masters and his occupant talking.

"The older guy told the driver to get out of there because he had too many DUIs already," Pincock said.

Masters shoved open the driver side door and made a break for it, running a half mile through the field and adjoining side streets.

Carson City Sheriff's deputies chased him down and handcuffed him shortly afterwards.

Cullen said Masters' passenger suffered head injuries, and he was taken by Care Flight to Washoe Medical Center.

Masters was booked into Carson City Jail for driving under the influence causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident.
