A funeral for Evelyn Hazel (Gault) Capurro will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ross, Burke and Knobel Mortuary, 2155 Kietzke Lane, Reno.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. today.
Mrs. Capurro died Oct. 1, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1910, in Reno. She was a third-generation Nevadan and was a lifetime resident of Northern Nevada.
She attended North Truckee School in Sparks and Orvis Ring Elementary School in Reno. After graduating from Reno High School in 1926, she attended the University of Nevada, Reno, graduating with honors in 1930 with a degree in mathematics and a teaching credential.
Mrs. Capurro taught one year at Dayton High School then several years at Northside and Billinghurst Junior High School.
She married John in June 1936. They lived in Reno until starting a small dairy on the family ranch on Wedekind Road in Sparks.
She enjoyed literature, writing, travel, classical music and family. She was a 50-year member of the Emmanuel First Baptist Church in Sparks, where she attended weekly Elderberry Sunday School and church services. She was active in the Rebekah Lodge, the Adah Chapter of the Eastern Star, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution, Huguenot Society, Sparks Heritage Foundation, Nevada Genealogical Society, Reno High School Alumni, UNR Alumni, Sparks Republican Women, North Truckee Homemakers Club, the Orr Ditch Co., the People's Drain Ditch Co. and the Truckee Meadows Community Concerts Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981; son Wayne; brother, Nolan Gault; and granddaughter Anita.
Among her survivors are her sons Richard and John of Sparks, Daryl of Reno and Ralph of Carson City; grandchildren David, Lisa, Jeremy and Jason of Sparks, Laurel Wachtel of Deeth, Carrie Ann of Reno and Sarah of Carson City; two great-granddaughters; and daughters-in-law Dolly, Kay and Lynn.
